Swiss international midfielder, Granit Xhaka, has defended his Bayer Leverkusen teammate Victor Boniface, urging fans to be patient with the Nigerian striker amid his struggles to shine for the Super Eagles.
While Boniface has excelled in the Bundesliga, scoring consistently for Leverkusen, his performance for Nigeria has drawn criticism.
In 11 appearances for the three-time African champions, he has yet to score, frustrating many Nigerian supporters.
Xhaka acknowledged the challenges Boniface faces in adapting to international football, citing limited time with teammates and coaches.
The former Arsenal captain assured Super Eagles fans of the striker’s potential, asking them to stay patient.
“He’s an important player for us at Leverkusen, and I believe he’ll be just as important for Nigeria in the future,” Xhaka told Nigerian journalist Oma Akatugba. “Stay calm. He’s a great guy and a talented footballer.”
Currently, Boniface is recovering from an injury he picked up during international duty in the final two AFCON qualifiers.
