Nigerian winger Moses Simon scores, but Nantes fall to Le Havre in five-goal thriller

Nicolas Pallois acknowledges Moses Simon’s key role in Nantes’ survival bid

Le Havre secured a vital 3-2 victory over FC Nantes in a dramatic Ligue 1 encounter on Sunday, despite a strong performance from Moses Simon.

The Nigerian winger found the net, but his efforts were not enough to prevent his side from slipping to defeat.

The match began at a frantic pace, with Le Havre taking an early lead through Abdoulaye Touré in the 13th minute.

The midfielder capitalized on a well-worked move to fire his team ahead.

However, Nantes quickly responded, as Guinean defender Saïdou Sow equalized just ten minutes later, registering his first goal of the season.

Touré was in inspired form and restored Le Havre’s advantage in the 27th minute from the penalty spot, making it two goals on the night for the midfielder.

His clinical finishing ensured the home side went into the break with a narrow lead.

Simon’s strike not enough for Nantes

Nantes came out determined in the second half, and within three minutes of the restart, Moses Simon brought his team level again.

The Nigerian international slotted home confidently to make it 2-2, taking his tally to seven goals this season.

In addition to his eight assists, Simon continues to be one of Nantes’ most influential players.

Despite their spirited fightback, Nantes were undone late in the game as Le Havre found a decisive winner.

The victory provides a significant boost for the home side in their battle against relegation, lifting them to 16th place with 24 points.

Meanwhile, Nantes remain 13th on 27 points, with their cushion above the drop zone growing smaller.

With the season reaching a critical stage, both teams will need to build on their performances in the coming weeks.

For Nantes, the challenge remains to capitalize on the form of key players like Simon, while Le Havre will hope this win sparks a turnaround in their survival bid.
