Nigerian winger Moses Simon prioritises French citizenship amid transfer interest

Nigerian international Moses Simon is holding off on any potential transfer away from FC Nantes as he awaits the outcome of his French citizenship application, according to his agent.

The 29-year-old winger, who has just completed a productive season with the Ligue 1 side—scoring eight goals in 32 appearances—has drawn attention from other clubs. Yet despite speculation over his future, Simon remains committed to staying in France until his naturalisation process is resolved.

Speaking on RMC’s After Foot programme, Simon’s agent Bruno Satin revealed that the player’s primary objective at present is to secure his French papers before making any decisions about a potential move.

“Moses wants to finish his paperwork before considering a transfer,” Satin said. “He has a clear preference to remain in France while this is ongoing. His administrative situation will ultimately determine his next steps.”

Simon’s future at Nantes, however, is not guaranteed. The club narrowly escaped relegation for a second successive season, and while he has been one of their more consistent performers, uncertainty remains about the direction the team is heading in.

Although no official offers have been confirmed, journalist Daniel Riolo hinted at interest from Paris FC. The Ligue 2 side is reportedly looking to strengthen its attacking options and sees Simon as a potential difference-maker on the flanks.

With his pace, experience, and goal-scoring ability, Simon fits the profile of a player capable of raising the level of any attacking line-up in French football.

However, any discussions with potential suitors are expected to be placed on hold until the winger receives clarity on his residency status. A move abroad at this point appears highly unlikely, largely due to Simon’s focus on remaining in France during the citizenship process.

Simon has been with FC Nantes since 2019, initially joining the club on loan from Levante before signing a permanent deal in 2020. Over the years, he has become a key figure in the squad, not only for his contributions on the pitch but also for his leadership and experience.

His ability to operate effectively on either wing, coupled with his eye for goal and versatility, has made him a reliable presence in a team that has often struggled for consistency.

His performances during the 2023–24 campaign further cemented his importance to the side, helping Nantes survive in Ligue 1 despite a turbulent season marked by managerial changes and squad instability.

Yet, as the summer transfer window approaches, the focus for Simon is not on new challenges abroad, but on resolving a crucial personal matter at home in France.

With several clubs now monitoring his situation, his eventual decision—once his citizenship status is confirmed—could shape the next chapter of his career.

For now, though, the Nigerian international remains firmly planted on French soil, awaiting a bureaucratic decision that may prove just as pivotal as any footballing one.
