Moses Simon’s influential form for Nantes has been officially recognised by Ligue 1 organisers following his ninth assist of the campaign during a 2-1 victory over OGC Nice on Friday evening.

The Nigerian international continued his consistent streak of goal contributions by delivering the decisive pass that led to Nantes’ opening goal at the Allianz Riviera.

In the 11th minute, Simon teed up teammate Douglas Augusto, whose finish gave the visitors an early lead against a Nice side featuring fellow Super Eagle, Terem Moffi.

Nice responded swiftly, levelling the match just three minutes later through Ali Abdi. However, the parity was short-lived, as Matthis Abline restored Nantes’ advantage in the 38th minute.

That goal would ultimately prove to be the winner, sealing a vital three points for a team battling to steer clear of the relegation zone.

The win propelled Nantes up the table to 13th place, with 30 points—a significant cushion from the drop zone as the Ligue 1 season enters its critical final stages.

Simon’s standout contribution did not go unnoticed. Ligue 1’s official X account (formerly Twitter) featured a post acknowledging the winger’s growing impact.

Accompanied by a graphic of his current statistics, the league captioned: “Moses Simon impresses with his assists.” The post served as a public nod to his growing importance in the league’s creative charts.

At 28, Simon has been one of Nantes’ most reliable players this term, consistently delivering in both goals and assists.

His ability to create chances from wide positions has added a crucial edge to the Canaries’ attacking approach.

With nine assists to his name, he remains among the top providers in France’s top flight and continues to be an essential outlet for manager Antoine Kombouaré.

His international teammate Terem Moffi, who started for Nice, was unable to influence the outcome of the game in his side’s favour.

The forward has been in solid form this season but found himself well contained by Nantes’ backline on the night.

The performance against Nice marked another milestone in Simon’s Ligue 1 journey since joining Nantes from Levante in 2019.

Known for his pace, dribbling, and vision, he has become a fan favourite at the Stade de la Beaujoire and a consistent figure in the Super Eagles setup.

With just a handful of matches left in the campaign, Nantes will look to build on this momentum.

Simon’s continued creativity will be pivotal as the club pushes for a strong finish and seeks to completely distance itself from the danger zone.

As the spotlight shines on his contributions, Simon’s growing influence is not only keeping Nantes competitive but also reaffirming his reputation as one of Africa’s top exports in European football.
