Sevilla forward Akor Adams faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury during his team’s 2-1 defeat to Atlético Madrid last weekend.
The Nigerian striker, who had only recently returned from a calf injury that kept him out for over a month, sustained the new setback in Sunday’s La Liga encounter at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
In a statement released by the club, Sevilla confirmed that Adams had sustained a muscle injury to the rectus femoris in his right thigh.
The issue was diagnosed following a medical assessment conducted after the match.
“Sevilla FC’s medical services indicate that Akor Adams is suffering from a muscle injury to the rectus femoris muscle of his right thigh, as detected after the match against Atlético de Madrid last Sunday,” the club announced on Tuesday.
Adams is scheduled to begin his rehabilitation process on Wednesday.
The duration of his recovery has not been specified, but the club indicated he will be out for several weeks.
The injury marks another frustrating blow for the 24-year-old, who joined Sevilla in January from French side Montpellier.
His early tenure in Spain has been marred by fitness issues, with this latest problem adding to a growing list of setbacks.
Having started his European career at Norwegian side Lillestrøm, Adams quickly built a reputation as a powerful and clinical forward.
His performances earned him a move to Ligue 1, where he impressed during his short stint with Montpellier before making the switch to La Liga.
Since arriving in Seville, however, the forward has struggled to maintain consistent playing time due to persistent injury problems.
His latest muscle issue comes at a critical time in Sevilla’s campaign as the club battles for a strong finish in the Spanish top flight.
For Adams, the challenge now lies in regaining full fitness and rediscovering form as he continues to adapt to the demands of Spanish football.
Sevilla’s medical team will monitor his progress closely over the coming weeks, hoping to reintroduce him into action before the season draws to a close.
The repeated setbacks will be a concern for both the player and the coaching staff, who had been counting on Adams to add depth and firepower to the frontline.
