France-born midfielder of Nigerian descent, Lesley Ugochukwu, looks set to remain at Southampton for the rest of the season, despite ongoing speculation about a potential recall by parent club Chelsea.
Ugochukwu, who joined Southampton on loan from Chelsea, endured a challenging period under former manager Russell Martin. However, the arrival of new head coach Ivan Juric appears to have rejuvenated his prospects at the club.
Speaking about the midfielder’s progress, Juric noted: “Now I start to have clear ideas – maybe an example is Lesley. He didn’t play before, and now he is playing. I think he is a great professional. We have others that can do it much better than before.”
Since Juric took charge, Ugochukwu has featured in Southampton’s last three Premier League games, showcasing his potential and earning more playing time.
While Chelsea has the option to recall the midfielder, his improved form under Juric may make a recall unnecessary—unless the Blues face a midfield shortage due to January transfer activity.
Ugochukwu’s performances will be closely watched as he aims to solidify his place in Southampton’s lineup for the remainder of the season.
