Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo calls Southampton’s Premier League struggles “embarrassing”

Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo calls Southampton’s Premier League struggles "embarrassing"

Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo has described Southampton’s current plight in the Premier League as “embarrassing” as the club finds itself rooted to the bottom of the table.

With the Saints facing an increasingly uphill battle for survival, the 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers further widened the gap to safety to 17 points.

Aribo Expresses Frustration

Aribo, who joined Southampton from Rangers, did not hold back when speaking about the team’s struggles. In an interview with the Daily Echo, the Nigerian international admitted that the situation is difficult to accept.

“I’ll speak for myself personally, of course it’s embarrassing. We play football to win,” Aribo said. “I’m a winner, and it’s just a tough time in my career with what’s been happening results-wise. I think the guys have to stick together. We have to work hard, take each game as it comes, and just look forward.”

Southampton’s form has been a source of concern all season, with Ivan Juric’s side struggling to put together a consistent run of results.

Their latest defeat against Wolves was another setback, leaving them with little margin for error in the remaining games.

Uphill Battle for Survival

The Saints’ season has been marked by missed opportunities and defensive frailties, making their battle against relegation even more daunting.

With the international break offering a brief pause in domestic action, Aribo believes the team must use the time to regroup and prepare for the critical matches ahead.

“After the break, we’ll have another chance to win a match, and that’s what we have to do,” he added.

With time running out and the club’s Premier League status hanging by a thread, Southampton must find a way to turn their fortunes around quickly.
