Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to start for Nottingham Forest in their FA Cup tie against Brighton on Saturday, as manager Nuno Espírito Santo confirmed that key forward Chris Wood remains sidelined due to injury.
Chris Wood ruled out
Wood, who has been in prolific form with 18 goals in 29 Premier League appearances this season, sustained a hip injury during the international break, forcing him to undergo medical tests.
His absence is a significant setback for Nottingham Forest as they prepare for the crucial cup fixture.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Espírito Santo voiced his frustration over the injuries his squad has suffered during international duty.
“He had a scan today, and we are still waiting for the results,” the Forest boss revealed. “He went to see a specialist, so we are awaiting more information.”
Confirming Wood’s unavailability, he explained: “He fell hard on his hip, and it’s causing him pain. At every international break, we have to reassess the squad. Many of the players arrived back today, and we are still waiting for Ramón Sosa tomorrow before making further evaluations.”
Awoniyi to step in
With Wood unavailable, Awoniyi is set to lead the line for Forest in a game that could define their FA Cup campaign.
The Nigerian international will look to make an impact and help his side progress in the competition.
As Nottingham Forest contend with squad concerns, Espírito Santo faces a critical test in reshaping his team for the upcoming fixture, with Awoniyi now tasked with delivering a strong performance on the big stage.
