Calvin Bassey has been named Fulham’s 2024/25 Player of the Season following a commanding year at the heart of the Cottagers’ defence.
Since arriving from Ajax in the summer of 2023, the Nigerian international has grown into a crucial figure under Marco Silva.
A runner-up in last year’s voting, Bassey stormed to victory this time with 39.6% of the vote, comfortably ahead of teammates Alex Iwobi (21.5%), Antonee Robinson (19.9%), Bernd Leno (10.9%), and Saša Lukić (8.1%).
Bassey’s impact has been felt across the pitch.
Defensively rock-solid, he missed just three Premier League matches all season, anchoring Fulham’s backline with pace, power and composure.
His assured passing and aerial dominance helped the club achieve a record points total in the Premier League, reinforcing his reputation as one of the league’s most reliable defenders.
Offensively, Bassey made vital contributions as well.
His match-winning strike at Craven Cottage against Nottingham Forest and a crucial opener at Old Trafford in the FA Cup victory over Manchester United highlighted his ability to influence games at both ends.

“Thank you all for voting me Player of the Season,” Bassey said upon receiving the accolade. “I want to thank God; without him, I wouldn’t be where I am. A big thank you to all my team and staff for their support. I hope we can achieve great things together next season.”
The 24-year-old’s leadership qualities have also been widely praised.
On and off the pitch, Bassey has grown into a natural leader, consistently setting the tone with his work ethic and vocal presence.
His compatriot Iwobi, also a standout performer this season, played a key role in Fulham’s midfield, while Robinson provided pace and stability on the left flank.
Goalkeeper Bernd Leno and midfielder Lukić also earned recognition for their consistent performances.
With the Player of the Season title now under his belt, Bassey has firmly cemented his place in Fulham’s history and looks set to play a central role as the club looks to build on its recent progress.
