AFC Toronto have officially secured the signing of Nigerian striker Esther Okoronkwo, marking a new chapter in her career as she brings her talents to the Canadian top flight from Chinese side Changchun Dazhong.

The 27-year-old forward, known for her pace and goal-scoring instincts, adds significant firepower to the AFC Toronto attack as the club looks to bolster its offensive options ahead of the new season.

Okoronkwo’s arrival is seen as a strategic move by the Canadian outfit, eager to compete at the highest level with proven international talent.

“We are delighted to welcome a player of Esther’s quality to Toronto,” said Billy Wilson, AFC Toronto’s sporting director.

“More comfortable as a centre forward, she has the technical and skill qualities needed to make a difference.”

Okoronkwo’s career has been a journey across continents, showcasing her adaptability and determination.

She began her professional journey in France with AS Saint-Étienne’s women’s team, where her impressive displays quickly caught the attention of European scouts.

A subsequent move to Spain saw her join UDG Tenerife, where she further honed her attacking prowess in the Spanish Primera División.

Her international experience is equally notable. Okoronkwo has been a consistent presence in the Nigerian women’s national team, the Super Falcons, participating in high-profile tournaments, including the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

She also featured prominently in the 2024 Paris Olympics, contributing to Nigeria’s strong showing on the global stage.

Okoronkwo’s move to Canada represents both a new challenge and an opportunity to make her mark in North American football.

Known for her sharp finishing, physicality, and leadership on the pitch, she is expected to play a crucial role in AFC Toronto’s ambitions this season.

“Canada has a growing reputation for women’s football, and joining AFC Toronto is an exciting opportunity for me,” Okoronkwo shared. “I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success and give my best for the fans.”

The Nigerian striker’s transfer comes as part of AFC Toronto’s broader strategy to strengthen their squad with international talent, aiming to compete for domestic honors and elevate the profile of the women’s game in Canada.

With the new season fast approaching, all eyes will be on Okoronkwo as she integrates into her new team and adapts to Canadian football. Fans and pundits alike are eager to see how the Super Falcons star will impact AFC Toronto’s campaign.
