Nigeria international Umar Sadiq is in danger of missing Valencia’s upcoming La Liga fixture against Real Mallorca on Sunday due to illness.
The towering forward, who recently returned from international duty, has been unable to train fully with the squad after contracting a viral infection.
Head coach Carlos Corberan confirmed the situation, explaining that while Sadiq had reported to the training facility, he was unable to participate in team activities.
“Sadiq was at the Ciutat Esportiva yesterday working and getting back into the swing of things, but he couldn’t train today due to a fever. Everyone else is fine. Sadiq should train tomorrow,” Corberan told the club website.
Despite the optimism that he may return to training, concerns remain over his fitness for the crucial league encounter against Jagoba Arrasate’s Real Mallorca.
Given the physical demands of top-flight football, Valencia’s medical team will assess his condition before making a final decision on his availability.
Since making the switch from Real Sociedad, Sadiq has enjoyed an impressive start to life at Valencia, netting four goals in eight La Liga appearances.
His potential absence would be a setback for Corberan, as the striker has been instrumental in the team’s attacking setup and fight for survival.
