Napoli began training for the new season without Nigeria international Victor Osimhen as he nears exit from the club.
Osimhen is currently in negotiations to join Turkish club Galatasaray on a permanent basis following an impressive loan spell last term, where he logged 37 goals and provided 8 assists in 41 appearances across competitions.
Fourteen players showed up for Napoli’s first training session as the club gear up for the 2025/26 football campaign.
“The players gathered at the training center for medical examinations and physical tests. Victor Osimhen was absent and presented a medical certificate.” A statement from Napoli reads.
Osimhen has attracted significant interest from several clubs, having established himself as one of the top strikers globally.
Saudi club Al Hilal is hoping to exploit the stalled negotiations between Napoli and Galatasaray regarding the Osimhen deal to quickly intervene and secure the player to bolster its attack before the start of the new season.
The forward had previously rejected several offers from Al-Hilal, preferring to stay in Europe and continue his career among the continent’s elite.
