Nigeria new goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo names Okocha and Osimhen in his all-time best Super Eagles eleven
Nigeria new goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has revealed his all-time greatest Super Eagles starting eleven, naming a squad packed with legendary Nigerian stars and modern-day standouts in a selection that has sparked excitement among football fans.
The young goalkeeper shared his dream team in a video posted on the official X page of Nigeria, carefully choosing players who have made huge impacts for the Nigeria national football team over the years.
Okonkwo’s lineup featured a strong balance of experience, leadership, flair, and attacking firepower, blending iconic names from different generations of Nigerian football.
For the goalkeeper position, Okonkwo selected legendary former captain Vincent Enyeama as his number one choice. Widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest goalkeepers, Enyeama enjoyed an extraordinary international career with Nigeria, earning over 100 caps and playing a major role in the country’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations triumph.
In defence, Okonkwo opted for a back four consisting of Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong, and Elderson Echiejile.
The inclusion of Aina and Bassey reflects the growing reputation of Nigeria’s current generation of defenders, while Troost-Ekong’s leadership and experience have made him one of the most reliable figures in recent Super Eagles squads. Echiejile, meanwhile, enjoyed a successful international career and was a key member of Nigeria’s AFCON-winning team in 2013.
In midfield, Okonkwo selected three players known for their technical quality, composure, and dominance in the middle of the park.
At the heart of the trio was Nigerian football icon Jay-Jay Okocha, whose creativity, flair, and dazzling skills made him one of the most entertaining African players of all time. Alongside him was former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel, celebrated for his calmness, intelligence, and leadership during Nigeria’s golden generation of the 2010s.
Completing the midfield was Wilfred Ndidi, whose defensive work rate and ball-winning ability have established him as one of the best holding midfielders to emerge from Nigeria in recent years.
Up front, Okonkwo selected a dangerous attacking trio led by Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Osimhen has become the face of modern Nigerian football thanks to his incredible goalscoring form, explosive pace, and relentless energy.
Supporting him in attack were former Chelsea winger Victor Moses and current African Footballer of the Year Ademola Lookman. Moses played a crucial role in Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON success, while Lookman has emerged as one of Africa’s most exciting attacking players following his impressive performances for both club and country.
Okonkwo’s selections quickly generated discussions among Nigerian football fans on social media, with many praising the blend of legendary figures and current stars. Others debated notable omissions, highlighting the depth of talent Nigeria has produced across generations.
The Wrexham goalkeeper, who remains highly regarded as one of the promising young players eligible for Nigeria, continues to strengthen his connection with the Super Eagles fanbase. His admiration for Nigerian football history and recognition of past legends is likely to further endear him to supporters.
With Nigeria continuing to develop top-level talent across Europe, Okonkwo’s dream eleven serves as a reminder of the country’s rich football heritage and the incredible players who have proudly represented the Super Eagles on the international stage.
