Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye shuts down transfer talk, pledges future to Udinese
Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has reaffirmed his commitment to Udinese, insisting his full attention remains on the Serie A club despite reported interest from Juventus and Inter Milan.
The 26-year-old was linked with a move away from Udinese during the summer, but he has now played down the speculation and made clear that his priority is delivering for the Italian side.
Okoye made an encouraging return to competitive action by keeping a clean sheet in Udinese’s 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Padova, providing an early boost ahead of the new Serie A campaign.
Speaking to Tuttoudinese, the goalkeeper said he was eager to build on the team’s preparations and help them meet their targets.
“We’re ready. We’ve worked so hard over the past few weeks, and we’re all pumped up for the start of the season,” he said.
Okoye draws line between football and life off the pitch
While Okoye acknowledged the importance of his activities away from football, he stressed that those interests do not interfere with his responsibilities at Udinese.
“These things are part of my life and are also important for my personal branding. But I keep the two separate,” Okoye said.
“Football is one thing; what I do off the pitch is another. When I’m here, I think about my work and Udinese.”
His comments come after a summer in which his name was reportedly associated with some of Italy’s biggest clubs.
Rather than allowing the speculation to distract him, Okoye has chosen to focus on his role at Udinese and the objectives ahead of the new season.
“We have our goals, and we want to try to achieve them. Personally, I want to give everything for Udinese, for the team, and for our fans.”
Okoye backs Udinese’s goalkeeping options
The Nigeria international also praised Udinese’s goalkeeping department, expressing confidence in the players competing alongside him.
“We’re in good hands. Piana is a young goalkeeper and has great talent,” he said.
Okoye also highlighted the value of veteran goalkeeper Daniele Padelli, whose experience could prove important as the squad navigates the demands of the campaign.
“Then we have Padelli, who brings a lot of quality but, above all, immense experience. I’m excited to see how the boys develop.”
For now, Okoye appears determined to put the transfer rumours behind him and concentrate on establishing himself as a key figure for Udinese as they begin the new season.
