Nigeria FA provides update on Arthur Okonkwo’s nationality switch

The Nigerian Football Federation have disclosed that Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has not yet completed his international switch from England to represent the Super Eagles.

Okonkwo, 24, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, has represented England at U-16, U-17, and U-18 levels but has not yet featured for the senior team. While reports in December 2025 suggested that FIFA had approved the switch, the NFF clarified that the process is still ongoing.

Speaking to Footy-Africa, NFF Head of International Competitions Dayo Enebi said: “The process is still ongoing and has not been completed yet. Okonkwo is one we are looking at, but as of today, his international switch has not been concluded.”

The goalkeeper’s potential move to the Super Eagles remains of high interest, as Nigeria continues to explore options to strengthen its squad ahead of upcoming competitions. Fans and pundits alike are awaiting the finalisation of the paperwork that would make Okonkwo eligible to don the green and white jersey at senior level.
