Nigeria FA in talks with William Osula over nationality switch
The Nigeria Football Federation has stepped up efforts to secure the international future of William Osula, opening discussions with the Newcastle United forward as they look to bring him into the Super Eagles fold.
Osula, 22, has emerged as a key target for Nigeria’s recruitment drive, with the federation keen to strengthen the national team by attracting dual-nationality talents. The striker is currently eligible to represent both Nigeria and Denmark, placing his international allegiance at the center of growing attention.
The young forward was recently called up to the senior squad of the Denmark national football team for the March FIFA World Cup playoff fixtures. However, he remained an unused substitute in matches against North Macedonia and the Czech Republic, leaving his international future unresolved.
Crucially, Osula is yet to make a senior competitive appearance for Denmark, meaning he remains fully eligible under FIFA regulations to switch allegiance and represent Nigeria if he chooses to do so.
This window of opportunity has prompted swift action from the NFF, who are now actively engaging the player in hopes of convincing him to commit to the Super Eagles ahead of upcoming international competitions.
Nigeria’s approach reflects a broader strategy of strengthening the squad with young, dynamic players capable of making an impact on the global stage. Osula, known for his physical presence, pace, and attacking instincts, is seen as a promising addition to the team’s forward options.
Should the move materialise, it would represent a significant boost for Nigeria as they continue to build a competitive squad for future tournaments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
For now, the situation remains open, with Osula yet to make a final decision. However, with interest intensifying and his eligibility still intact, the coming months could prove decisive in determining which nation the Newcastle striker will ultimately represent.
