Nigeria national team captain Ahmed Musa claims he is not bothered about limited playing minutes at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as he is yet to make an appearance in the tournament.
The experienced winger who was part of the 2013 victorious squad has been benched in all the six games the Nigeria have played so far in the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the finals, Musa was posed with a question of whether he is bothered by being on the bench throughout the tournament.
“I have had times that I play for my colleagues to win. If I’m placed on the bench for my colleagues to win for me, I’m not bothered.” Musa said.
The Super Eagles face host country Cote d’Ivoire in the finals of AFCON 2023 at the Stade Alassane Outtara in Ebimpé on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Jose Peseiro and his charges are keen on lifting the trophy for the 4th time in Nigeria’s history as they won it 11 years ago in South Africa under late Stephen Keshi.
Musa and Kenneth Omeruo could become the only players to win two AFCON titles in the history of Nigerian football, having won it in 2013.
