Akor Adams has made no secret of his ultimate ambition: to represent Nigeria at senior level.
The 24-year-old striker, currently plying his trade with Sevilla, has declared that donning the Super Eagles shirt remains the greatest honour he could achieve in his career.
Speaking on the SLUM2STARDOM podcast, Adams underlined his deep connection to his country and the emotional weight a national team call-up would carry.
“I think there’s rarely a young Nigerian footballer who doesn’t dream of wearing this jersey. In my country, playing for the national team is an inestimable honor,” he said.
Though he has previously represented Nigeria at the U20 level, Adams has yet to make the leap to the senior side.
Now based in Spain, where he continues to sharpen his skills at Sevilla, he is determined to turn that dream into a reality.
“Representing your country of origin, that of your parents and your own, the one in which you have roots, relationships, and friends, is like a military man who takes everything to go to peacekeeping for the country,” he explained. “It’s like representing Nigeria; there is no greater honor for me.”
Adams’ journey to La Liga began in Norway, where his time at Lillestrøm proved pivotal.
He credits the Scandinavian club with shaping his professional foundation.
“Norway played a vital role in my journey because I wasn’t fully grown yet. I needed the experience I could gain in Norway, and I think it’s the best platform,” he said.
“Lillestrøm was the springboard to achieve everything I wanted. They treat us well as Africans. They train on grass, and many strikers who have played there have achieved very good results.”
Before arriving at Sevilla, Adams spent a season in France with Montpellier, where he made an immediate impact, scoring twice on his debut.
“A brace on my debut made me feel like I was establishing myself in Europe, not that Norway wasn’t Europe, but the feeling after those two goals was that now they know my name,” he recalled.
A key influence in his decision to join Montpellier was former Nigeria international John Utaka.
“He’s one of my mother’s favorite players at the Super Eagles. When I received the call from Montpellier, the fact that he spoke to me played a role in my decision,” Adams revealed.
Now preparing for his first full season in Spain, Adams is ready to put past injuries behind him and focus on earning a spot in Nigeria’s senior squad.
At 1.90m tall, with a commanding presence and relentless work ethic, the Benue-born striker believes he is equipped to make a lasting impact for both club and country.
With the Nigerian national team undergoing a period of renewal, Akor Adams is hoping his name will soon be added to the growing list of talent shaping the future of the Super Eagles.
