The suspension of 27-year-old attacking midfielder Victorien Adebayor has been officially lifted by the Niger Football Federation (Fenifoot). The decision, confirmed on Thursday, February 29, 2024, paves the way for Adebayor’s return to the Mena squad.
Adebayor’s six-month suspension, instituted after he opted to decline the national team call during the CAN 2023 qualifiers against Uganda in September 2023, “in favor of a team of neighborhood with which he participated in a TGV (Great Holiday Tournament),” has now been revoked, as per the official press release from Fenifoot.
This announcement brings relief to Mena supporters and particularly to the recently appointed Moroccan coach, Badou Zaki, who took charge of the national team in December 2023.
Adebayor’s reinstatement will undoubtedly bolster the team’s offensive capabilities, with the attacking midfielder having previously showcased his prowess while playing for Usgn and Rs Berkane.
Currently plying his trade in the South African Premier Division with Amazulu, where the team occupies the 11th position, Adebayor is known for his dynamic playstyle on the right side.
With 19 goals in 54 caps, he retains the distinction of being the top active scorer for the Niger national team.
The lifting of the suspension also extends to Mahamadou Sabo, an international midfielder for Mena and a player for the African Club of Tunis.
This decision not only strengthens the squad but also aligns with the strategic vision of the team under Badou Zaki’s leadership.
As Mena prepares for future competitions, the return of Adebayor and Sabo brings optimism and anticipation among fans, eager to witness their contributions to the team’s success on the international stage.
