Niels Nkounkou linked with Celtic after return to Eintracht Frankfurt

French-Congolese left-back Niels Nkounkou is the subject of a transfer rumour linking him with a move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Nkounkou, 25, has yet to make an appearance for Frankfurt in the 2026-27 Bundesliga or DFB-Pokal campaigns. The defender returned to the German club in June after a season-long loan at Torino ended, having made the move to the Italian side in September 2025 for a reported €500,000 loan fee.

Frankfurt signed Nkounkou from Saint-Etienne in September 2023 for €7.5m. He had joined the French club from Everton earlier that summer after a loan spell in Ligue 2, but his immediate future has since included moves between clubs in Germany and Italy.

The left-back’s current market value is listed at €2.6m, while his previous high was €7.5m. The figures provide a reference point for any potential deal, although no transfer fee or negotiations have been established in connection with Celtic’s reported interest.

Nkounkou began his senior career with Marseille’s reserve side and also spent time on loan at Standard Liege and Cardiff during his period with Everton. He has represented both France and Congo at international level.

He remains under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 30 June 2028, leaving the Bundesliga club in control of his current contractual situation as the Celtic rumour develops.
