Nantes defender Nicolas Pallois has underlined the pivotal role of Nigerian winger Moses Simon in the club’s battle to secure Ligue 1 survival this season.
Simon has been a standout performer for the Yellow and Greens, delivering a series of impressive displays that have significantly contributed to the team’s attacking output.
The 28-year-old has been directly involved in 15 goals, scoring seven times and providing eight assists. In the league’s assist charts, only Rayan Cherki, Bradley Barcola, and Dilane Bakwa have managed more, each with nine.
Nantes’ Dependence on Simon
With Simon playing a role in nearly half of Nantes’ goals this season—15 out of 31 in Ligue 1—his influence on the team has been undeniable. Pallois openly admitted that the squad often turns to the Nigerian international to create chances and break through opposition defenses.
“We give the ball to Simon. We know he can make the difference, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that he succeeds,” Pallois told GFFN.
However, the French defender also acknowledged that this approach might not be sustainable in the long run, but could be crucial in helping Nantes avoid relegation.
A Tight Battle at the Bottom
Nantes currently sit 13th in the Ligue 1 standings, just three points clear of the relegation play-off zone. With only a handful of matches remaining, the club faces a tense end to the campaign as they look to maintain their top-flight status.
Simon’s performances will likely be a deciding factor in their fortunes, with the team counting on his attacking contributions to secure vital points.
