Nicolas Nkoulou Faces Uncertain Future Due to Knee Injury
Nicolas Nkoulou’s season hangs in the balance as the Olympique de Marseille defender struggles with a lingering left knee injury that has sidelined him since the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, where Cameroon was eliminated in the group stage.
According to La Provence, Nkoulou recently consulted a specialist regarding the injury. While surgery is reportedly being considered, it poses a major risk — it could end his season prematurely.
During the CAN, Nkoulou played with his knee heavily bandaged, and the issue has not improved since his return. Marcelo Bielsa, OM’s coach, confirmed on Friday that the defender would miss the upcoming Ligue 1 clash with Saint-Étienne, stating:
“He’s in the process of recovering from his injury,”
“I don’t know how long he will be out.”
With Marseille in the thick of the title race, Nkoulou’s absence is a serious blow, and the club faces an anxious wait as he evaluates whether to opt for surgery or attempt conservative treatment.
