Nicolas Jackson, the Senegalese forward who made a summer move from Villarreal CF to Chelsea FC, has taken stock of his performance after seven months with the English club. Although the 22-year-old has scored 11 goals in 30 appearances across various competitions, he expresses a sense of disappointment, believing he could have contributed more to the team.
In a candid self-assessment, Jackson acknowledges, “11 goals scored this season is not enough. I should have had more, but I’m missing a lot of opportunities.”
Despite grappling with missed chances, the young striker remains committed to supporting his teammates on the field. “However, in every match, I always try to help my teammates just as they do for me,” he explains.
While facing scrutiny and expectations from Chelsea supporters, Jackson finds solace in the unwavering support of Chelsea’s head coach, Mauricio Pochettino.
In a statement last December, Pochettino defended the young striker, emphasizing his youth and the challenges of adapting to the intensity of the Premier League. “Nicolas Jackson is young, it’s his first season in the Premier League. Expectations are huge; we are Chelsea. Blame the whole team, not him alone,” Pochettino asserted.
Despite the hurdles, the Senegalese player remains optimistic about his future at Chelsea. “But it’s just the beginning. I’m starting to like it in England, and I have to keep moving forward,” Jackson affirms.
With Chelsea FC currently standing at 11th place in the Premier League standings with 36 points, Jackson’s determination to contribute more on the field adds an element of anticipation for the remaining fixtures of the season.
