Nicolas Jackson hails ‘Perfect Day’ after brace in Chelsea’s London derby triumph
Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson has described his performance in Chelsea’s London derby win over West Ham United as a “perfect day” after netting two quick goals in the opening 18 minutes. The 23-year-old’s brace secured Chelsea’s 3-1 victory and marked the fastest double scored by a Chelsea player in the Premier League since Ivorian legend Didier Drogba’s feat in January 2005, according to Opta statistics.
Reflecting on his standout display, Jackson expressed his delight at contributing to the team’s success in such an important match.
“I like playing against any opponent when I’m helping the team,” he told Chelsea’s official website.
“That’s the most important thing for me, contributing to the team, and as long as I’m doing that, then it doesn’t matter who we are playing against.
It was a perfect day for me really.
Scoring two goals and helping the team win a big London derby, I’m very happy.”
Jackson’s explosive start to the season continued with these two goals, bringing his tally to four goals in just five Premier League appearances.
He emphasized that becoming more effective in front of goal has been a key focus in his development.
His first goal showcased his sharp instincts, as he chose to drive towards the goal rather than pass to teammates Cole Palmer or Noni Madueke, both of whom were in strong positions.
“I think everybody thought I would pass to Cole [Palmer] or Noni [Madueke], who were both in good positions, but I saw the space opening up for me, so I drove at goal and managed to score,” Jackson explained.
“I was happy with that goal, but also the timing of it. Being so early in the game meant we could control things, and I think we did that.”
Jackson’s second goal demonstrated his growing confidence.
“I saw the goalkeeper come towards me, and I made the decision to put it through his legs, and luckily for me, it came off perfectly.
I’ve been working hard on that aspect of my game, so I’m happy to score two goals and help the team,” he added.
The Senegalese forward also noted that his recovery from an injury suffered last season has been instrumental in boosting his form.
“That gave me confidence for the second goal, and I feel stronger with each game after overcoming injury from last season.
I feel strong, and I’m happy with my performance, but also the performance of the team as a whole.”
Capping off a memorable day for Jackson was his assist for Cole Palmer’s goal, which sealed Chelsea’s victory.
Jackson said he “knew instantly” that Palmer would convert the chance once he passed him the ball.
“I was happy to assist Cole too. I knew he would score once I found him because it’s Cole, and we know he’s very ‘cold’ in front of goal,” he concluded.
Chelsea’s victory over West Ham not only highlights Jackson’s emerging prowess but also bolsters the team’s confidence as they push forward in the Premier League campaign.
