OGC Nice have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of 21-year-old Ghanaian centre-back Kojo Peprah Oppong from Swedish top-tier club IFK Norrköping.
The deal, confirmed on Thursday, is a permanent transfer, although the club has not disclosed the fee or the length of his contract.
Oppong becomes the second defensive reinforcement of the summer following the arrival of Manchester City’s Juma Bah on loan.
His signing is a timely addition for head coach Franck Haise, with the club facing key absences in central defence.
Veteran captain Dante, who turns 42 in October, is entering his final season; Moïse Bombito is set to miss the start of the campaign; and both Youssouf Ndayishimiye and Mohamed Abdelmonem are sidelined with long-term ACL injuries suffered last season.
While financial details remain private, L’Équipe reports the transfer fee is believed to be between €2 million and €3 million.
Oppong is expected to join the rest of the squad at their pre-season training base in Austria, where he will begin his integration into the team.
OGC Nice open their competitive season on 6 August with a high-stakes UEFA Champions League qualifier against Portuguese side SL Benfica.
Oppong could be in contention as the club seeks to navigate a demanding early fixture schedule.
