Nampalys Mendy, the 21-year-old defensive midfielder for OGC Nice, has received flattering comparisons to football legend Claude Makelele from his coach Claudio Ranieri. However, Mendy, whose contract is set to expire in June, remains humble about the comparison.
“It’s flattering because he’s a role model for me. But to compare myself to him… It might be good for me, but I don’t think it’s good for him (laughs). Later perhaps…” Mendy shared in an interview with L’Equipe.
The Franco-Senegalese midfielder has already featured in seven matches in Ligue 1 for OGC Nice this season, showcasing his talents on the field.
