N’Golo Kante: Rayan Cherki’s technique stands out even in France squad
Fenerbahçe midfielder N’Golo Kanté has expressed his admiration for France teammate Rayan Cherki, admitting he has been deeply impressed by the youngster’s technical ability since joining up with the national team.
Speaking during France’s March 2026 tour of the United States, the veteran midfielder revealed that he had not fully grasped Cherki’s potential until they began working together on the training pitch.
“Personally, he is a player that I discovered because before the selection, I had not worked with him,” Kanté said.
The 34-year-old, who recently returned to European football, was quick to highlight the Manchester City attacker’s unique skill set, noting that Cherki possesses a level of technique that sits “above average” even within the elite ranks of the French squad.
Kanté emphasized Cherki’s knack for “making the differences” during matches, particularly his ability to navigate tight spaces and create opportunities out of nothing.
The endorsement carries significant weight given Kanté’s career experience and his recent high-profile move to Turkey.
After a successful two-and-a-half-year stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad, Kanté joined Fenerbahçe in February 2026.
His transition back to the European stage has coincided with Cherki’s own rise at Manchester City, where the young Frenchman has already earned high praise from manager Pep Guardiola.
Kanté concluded his assessment with an optimistic look at the 22-year-old’s career path.
And he is a player with a lot of quality, a player who makes the differences, who has this technique which is above average.
“And to rub shoulders with the last selection, is still there, we see that he is a player who has a very bright future, I hope, ahead of him.
“What impresses me about him? His technique, his sense of getting rid of certain situations and his ability to be decisive.”
