Newcastle United have seen a bid for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga rejected outright, with no indication from the East Midlands side that they are willing to entertain offers for the Sweden international.
Elanga, who is of Cameroonian descent, enjoyed a standout campaign under Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo last season, registering six goals and 11 assists in the Premier League.
His form has not only silenced doubts following his departure from Manchester United but has also made him a vital figure in Forest’s attack.
The club’s swift dismissal of Newcastle’s offer—reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic—underlines their desire to keep hold of the 22-year-old.
While details of Newcastle’s proposal remain under wraps, reports have hinted that Harvey Barnes could have been offered as part of a swap-plus-cash deal.
However, Forest’s response signals their unwillingness to lose one of their most productive forwards just a year after signing him for £15 million.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, despite securing European qualification, has yet to make a major signing this summer.
The move for Elanga suggests a shift in approach as he looks to inject pace and creativity into his squad.
Forest boss Nuno praised Elanga in April after his match-winning goal against Manchester United, describing him as a “special” player with the rare ability to maintain control at high speed.
With the club standing firm, it appears Elanga will remain at the City Ground—unless Newcastle or another suitor returns with an offer too substantial to ignore.
