Newcastle United have expressed interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, with reports suggesting the Premier League club has already made contact with the Nigerian international’s representatives.
According to The Chronicle, the Magpies are exploring the possibility of bringing Boniface to England, as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.
Failed move to Al Nassr
Boniface was previously linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr during the winter transfer window.
Despite reaching an agreement with Leverkusen, the deal ultimately fell through, with the Saudi club opting instead to sign Aston Villa’s Colombian striker Jhon Durán.
Now, with Newcastle showing interest, the 24-year-old could still be on the move this summer.
Leverkusen are reportedly open to selling him at the end of the season if a suitable offer is made.
Contract and performance at Leverkusen
Boniface recently extended his contract with Leverkusen by an additional year, keeping him at the Bundesliga club until 2029.
He joined the German side in 2023 from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise and has since made a significant impact.
In 52 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 31 goals and provided 11 assists, establishing himself as a key player under manager Xabi Alonso.
A potential move to the Premier League
With Newcastle closely monitoring Boniface’s situation, a summer transfer could be on the horizon. However, with his contract running until 2029, any potential deal is likely to come at a high price.
As the Magpies look to bolster their squad for the next campaign, Boniface has emerged as a strong candidate to reinforce their attacking line-up.
Whether Newcastle can secure his signature remains to be seen, but interest in the Nigerian forward is expected to grow as the transfer window approaches.
