Newcastle United have taken the first step in their quest to sign French forward of Cameroonian descent, Hugo Ekitike.
According to Transfer Insider Fabrizio Romano, the English Premier League club has submitted an official bid to Eintracht Frankfurt, formally communicating their intent to sign the striker.
It is understood that the offer is higher than the 70 million euros previously offered by another club.
“EXCL: Newcastle submitted an official bid today to Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike!
“Proposal higher than €70m previously offered by another club this summer with Newcastle pushing to get the deal done. Negotiations underway,” Fabrizio Romano said.
Coming off a prolific breakthrough campaign in Germany, the talented attacker netted 22 goals and provided 13 assists in 48 appearances for Frankfurt.
Previously, Chelsea and Manchester United had also shown interest in Ekitike, but the striker has made it clear he’s set his sights firmly on joining Liverpool.
Ekitike joined Eintracht in 2024, moving from PSG for €16.5 million, and since then has featured in 64 matches for the club, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists.
