Contract renewal talks between Al Ahly and Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng have hit a sudden impasse after the player changed his financial demands at the last moment.

According to Egyptian presenter Ahmed Shobier, Dieng had initially agreed in principle to extend his deal for an annual salary of 1.5 million dollars, before unexpectedly raising his request to 2 million dollars per year, plus a package of extra bonuses and incentives.

Shobier explained that this shift came after attractive offers arrived from one of the major foreign leagues, with the exact destination not yet revealed.

Dieng’s agent is reported to have formally presented these proposals to Al Ahly’s board and to the player himself, increasing pressure on the club and complicating negotiations. Shobier went as far as to claim that, “after these developments, Dieng is 99% out of Al Ahly in the coming period.”

Despite this, Al Ahly remain determined to do everything possible to keep the 28‑year‑old, who is considered a pillar of the team’s midfield.

The coming negotiation rounds will be decisive in determining whether Dieng stays at the Cairo giants for several more seasons or leaves for a new professional adventure abroad, ending a successful spell that has seen him become one of the club’s most reliable performers.
