Liverpool have reportedly decided to keep Mohamed Salah until at least the end of the season, despite ongoing speculation about his future and interest from abroad.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the club has no intention of selling the Egyptian star in the current January transfer window. His contract at Anfield runs until the summer of 2027, giving Liverpool room to manage the situation carefully.
Ornstein explained on X that Salah is expected to stay while the club focuses its transfer plans on strengthening central defence, with centre-back now the main priority for the summer. This strategic shift is the new factor influencing the board’s position on Salah, as talks over Ibrahima Konate’s renewal stagnate and the deals of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez also edge towards 2027.
Liverpool, however, face a delicate challenge. Salah wants guaranteed regular minutes, something the club hierarchy is reluctant to promise outright, even though they fully recognise his importance and impact.
Recent reports suggested the situation might favour Salah after young defender Conor Bradley suffered a season-ending knee injury, but for now the message from Liverpool is continuity, not a January exit.
