The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is poised to make a new decision as part of a series of measures taken in the aftermath of Egypt’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
On Sunday, the EFA announced the dismissal of coach Rui Vitoria, who led the Egyptian national team, and the appointment of Mohamed Youssef, former head coach of Al Ahly, as the assistant coach within the upcoming coaching staff.
Additionally, Alaa Nabil was appointed as the technical director of the EFA, filling the position vacant since the departure of Portuguese Nelio Vingada nearly a year ago.
The EFA has decided to abolish the position of the director of the Egyptian national team, held by Mohamed Gharib in Rui Vitoria’s staff, and appoint a new administrative director.
Insiders revealed to “Al-Masry Al-Youm” that the most likely candidate for the administrative director position in the new coaching staff is Mohamed Salah, currently working at Pyramids FC.
Mohamed Salah is not a stranger to the Egyptian national team, having previously held the same position during the tenures of Argentinean coach Hector Cuper and Mexican coach Javier Aguirre, as well as under Hossam El-Badry.
A reliable source confirmed that Carlos Queiroz, former coach of the Egyptian national team, has expressed interest in returning to lead the team again.
The source mentioned that Queiroz has one condition for his return – no interference from Gamal Allam, the president of the Egyptian Football Association, in the negotiations.
The Egyptian national team bid farewell to the Africa Cup of Nations in the Round of 16, losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo in a penalty shootout.
