Netherlands manager, Ronald Koeman has opened up on why Joshua Zirkzee is not in his squad for the upcoming games in the March international break.
The Netherlands are gearing up for two games against Spain in the Uefa Nations League.
In his preliminary squad released for the matches, Ronald Koeman has left out Zirkzee, who is of Nigerian descent.
According to Koeman, he has not invited the Manchester United forward because he is not doing well at the moment.
He insists that Zirkzee does not deserve a call-up for the two games against Spain.
“Zirkzee wasn’t in the preliminary selection because I don’t think he’s good enough at the moment. Especially scanning when turning or passing, he often goes wrong.
“Yes, in principle form and fitness are always leading, but that is not always possible. We have a lot of central defenders and midfielders, but we are somewhat limited up front.
“But even then, I still think that you have to earn your selection, and I think he doesn’t deserve that now, but that could be the case again in another period,” Koeman stressed.
Zirkzee, 23, has only scored three goals in the English Premier League this season after making 28 appearances for Manchester United.
The two games he will be missing against Spain will be played on March 20 and March 23, respectively.
