African stars were at the forefront as Europe’s major leagues concluded their 2024/25 campaigns over the weekend, delivering standout performances that highlighted their impact on the continent’s football narrative.
England
Everton secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Southampton at Goodison Park, with Senegalese forward Iliman Ndiaye delivering both goals.
Ndiaye, who joined from Olympique Marseille, sparked the Toffees’ final home game of the season to life in the sixth minute, cutting through defenders before firing past Aaron Ramsdale.
He doubled the lead just before halftime, rounding the goalkeeper after being set up by Dwight McNeil. Despite his dominant display, he was substituted in the 75th minute for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Meanwhile, at the Gtech Community Stadium, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa found the net for Brentford, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 3-2 loss to Fulham.
Mbeumo, who equalized six minutes after Raul Jimenez’s opener, missed a golden chance to double his tally when his penalty was saved by Bernd Leno.
Wissa gave the Bees the lead before halftime, but Fulham hit back through Tom Cairney and Harry Wilson to claim all three points.
Germany
In the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt rallied to beat Freiburg 3-1, securing a Champions League spot. After falling behind to a Ritsu Doan strike, Frankfurt equalized through Ansgar Knauff before second-half goals from Rasmus Kristensen and Ellyes Skhiri sealed the win.
Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy helped Borussia Dortmund secure a 3-1 win over Holstein Kiel, scoring from the spot before Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha added further goals to confirm Dortmund’s top-four finish.
Italy
Atalanta held onto third place in Serie A after a 3-2 win over Genoa, with Ghana’s Ibrahim Sulemana scoring early in the second half to cancel out Andrea Pinamonti’s opener.
Despite the equalizer, Daniel Maldini and Mateo Retegui secured the win for Genoa.
Spain
