Moroccan international defender Nayef Aguerd will be absent from Real Sociedad’s upcoming La Liga match against Real Mallorca this weekend due to an unresolved knee injury.
Aguerd had already missed the previous fixture against Las Palmas due to the same knee issue.
Despite initial hopes from his manager at Real Sociedad, Imanol Alguacil, that the defender might be fit to return for the Mallorca encounter, Spanish media outlets have reported that Aguerd is still experiencing discomfort in the affected knee.
As a result, the club has decided against rushing his recovery to avoid the risk of further complications or exacerbating the injury.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury during the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Madrid, where he was forced off the pitch in the 27th minute.
Aguerd’s knee has been a recurring issue throughout his career, with past problems observed both at West Ham United in England and with the Moroccan national team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, in addition to his current spell at Real Sociedad.
This latest setback underscores the concerns surrounding Aguerd’s fitness, and the club is taking a cautious approach to ensure his long-term availability.
