Nathan Ngoumou set to join Nice on free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach

Nathan Ngoumou is expected to return to French football with OGC Nice after the Ligue 1 club reached an agreement with Borussia Monchengladbach for the Cameroon winger.

The final paperwork is reportedly being completed, with Ngoumou due to undergo his medical examination on Monday, according to Florian Plettenberg. Subject to successfully passing those checks, the 26-year-old will begin a new chapter on the Cote d’Azur.

Despite Ngoumou remaining under contract with Borussia Monchengladbach until June 2027, the move is expected to go through without a transfer fee. The German club could, however, receive up to €500,000 (£430,000) in bonuses if certain conditions are met.

Borussia Monchengladbach would also retain a 10% sell-on clause, giving them a share of any future transfer fee if Ngoumou is sold by Nice. The Bundesliga club are additionally expected to make a saving on the player’s salary by allowing him to leave.

Ngoumou already has extensive experience of French football. He came through the academy at Toulouse FC and established himself during the 2021-22 campaign, making 37 appearances in Ligue 2 and scoring eight goals while providing four assists.

His performances earned him a move to Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2022. His time in Germany was subsequently disrupted by a serious Achilles tendon injury sustained in April 2025, which ruled him out for the whole of the 2025-26 season.

Nice see the proposed signing as an opportunity to strengthen their attacking options in wide areas. Ngoumou is considered an experienced and quick player who can operate in several positions, offering greater flexibility to the club’s forward line.

His arrival is not yet complete because of the outstanding medical, but he is expected to join OGC Nice soon if the examination does not uncover any problems.

AJ Auxerre had also shown an interest in Ngoumou, as Africafoot previously reported exclusively. The Toulouse-born player is valued at €3.5m by Transfermarkt, while his annual salary in Germany is reported to be €1.04m, equivalent to 676m CFA francs.

Nice are due to begin their French league campaign against Lorient. According to the betting information included in the source article, 1xBet lists OGC Nice at odds of 2.20 to win, with a draw priced at 3.40 and a Lorient victory at 3.10.
