Speculation swirls around Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s future as Fabrizio Romano suggests the possibility of the Nigerian’s departure from the Serie A club at the end of the current season, despite recent remarks by Napoli’s president about a contract extension.
Aurelio De Laurentiis had previously indicated that Osimhen was on the verge of committing to a contract extension that would tie him to Napoli until 2026. However, the absence of an official confirmation has fueled doubts about the situation.
According to Romano in an interview with Caught Offside, Napoli might be leveraging the media to apply pressure, using the narrative of an impending contract extension to the club’s advantage.
“I’m not sure they are that close to signing a new deal,” Romano remarked. “Napoli like to use the media to put some pressure – they are trying with the best proposal of their history, higher than the likes of Cavani or Higuain had in recent years.”
Despite the public discussions, Romano hints at the absence of a definitive agreement. “But from what I’m hearing, there is no full agreement. It’s not a done deal. I think the opportunity for Osimhen to leave in summer 2024 remains really concrete.”
While a January transfer appears unlikely, Romano suggests that a potential move for Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window could materialize.
The uncertainty surrounding Osimhen’s contract negotiations and the hints of a possible exit create an air of anticipation, with several top clubs, including Chelsea, monitoring the situation closely. Romano’s insights point to a narrative of negotiations and potential movement for the Nigerian forward, fueling speculations about his future destination and the path his career might take beyond Napoli.
