Napoli face uncertainty over Zambo Anguissa’s future

Napoli midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa’s future at the club has become increasingly uncertain, with reports suggesting he is considering a move away from Italy despite the club’s desire to extend his contract.

Contract standoff amid injury concerns

Anguissa, who is currently sidelined with an injury, is at the centre of a contract dispute that could see him depart the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona at the end of the season.

Napoli had planned to trigger an extension clause that would keep him at the club until 2027, but the situation has become complicated due to the player’s reported reluctance to remain in Italy.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Anguissa and his family are eager to explore new opportunities elsewhere, which has put negotiations with Napoli in a difficult position.

While the Italian club values the Cameroonian midfielder highly and sees him as a key figure in their squad, his apparent desire for a fresh challenge could force them to rethink their long-term plans.

Key player since arrival

Since joining Napoli from Fulham in 2021, initially on loan before making the move permanent, Anguissa has been instrumental in the club’s midfield.

His dynamic playing style, defensive resilience, and ability to drive forward have made him a crucial component of the squad.

He played a key role in Napoli’s Serie A title-winning campaign in 2022-23, helping the club secure their first Scudetto in over three decades.

However, injuries have troubled him in recent months, and his current spell on the sidelines adds another layer of uncertainty regarding his future.

If Napoli are unable to convince him to stay, they may be forced to cash in on him during the summer transfer window rather than risk losing him for free.

What next for Napoli and Anguissa?

Napoli’s management now faces a difficult decision.

They must either persuade Anguissa to commit to a long-term future at the club or begin preparing for his possible departure.

Clubs across Europe could be monitoring the situation, with the midfielder’s proven ability making him an attractive option in the transfer market.

For now, both Napoli and Anguissa remain at a crossroads, with the next few months set to determine whether he stays in Italy or embarks on a new chapter in his career.
