FAOUZI GHOULAM PLAYS FULL MATCH IN NAPOLI’S DEFEAT TO YOUNG BOYS
Napoli’s Algerian international Faouzi Ghoulam completed the full 90 minutes in his side’s Europa League defeat to Young Boys Bern on Thursday. Despite the loss, Ghoulam remains determined to fight for his place in the squad, especially as he prepares for a potential month-and-a-half absence during the upcoming 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
“We knew it was going to be difficult. We wanted to win to secure qualification, but we were surprised,” Ghoulam said post-match. “We’re still in the race. There’s another match at home and we’ll try to win it to advance.”
Aware that his international duties could limit his playing time at club level, Ghoulam is eager to make the most of every opportunity.
“We need these kinds of matches to get playing time and prove that we are capable,” he added. “We’re not used to starting league matches, so we must seize these chances to reclaim our place. We won’t give up easily.”
With Napoli still in contention to qualify from the group stage, Ghoulam’s experience and drive could prove vital in the weeks ahead.
