Namibia triumphed over Lesotho with a 2-1 victory in their Group C encounter at the COSAFA Cup 2024 on Monday, July 1. This win marks a significant step for Namibia as they reposition themselves in the group standings.

Both teams entered the match needing a win after drawing their previous fixtures. The Namibian side seized the initiative in the first half, with Ivan Kamberipa breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute.

This early advantage set the tone for the match as Namibia looked to solidify their standing in Group C.

Lesotho responded strongly after the halftime break, leveling the score through Neo Mokhachane in the 54th minute.

However, Namibia quickly regained their composure and momentum. Just 15 minutes later, Bethuel Muzeu found the back of the net, restoring Namibia’s lead in the 69th minute.

The scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle, securing a vital victory for Namibia.

With this win, Namibia now has four points, sharing the top spot in Group C with Angola. This puts them in a favorable position as they head into the final group stage matches.

Namibia’s fate is firmly in their hands, and a victory in their next game will ensure their place in the knockout stages.

Lesotho, on the other hand, faces a more challenging path. With only one point from their two matches, they find themselves at the bottom of the group alongside Seychelles.

The upcoming matches will be crucial for Lesotho as they strive to turn their fortunes around and keep their tournament hopes alive.

Namibia is set to face Seychelles on July 3, 2024, in what promises to be a decisive match for both teams. A win for Namibia will secure their advancement to the next round.

Simultaneously, Angola will take on Lesotho, with both matches scheduled to kick off at 13:00 GMT.

For Namibia, maintaining their current form and focus will be key. Their performance against Lesotho demonstrated their ability to capitalize on crucial moments and sustain pressure, traits that will be essential in their quest for COSAFA Cup glory.

Namibian coach Bobby Samaria expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance but emphasized the importance of staying grounded.

“We played well today and took our chances when they came. However, we must remain focused and not get complacent. The job is not done yet,” Samaria stated post-match.

Namibian fans celebrated the victory, with many expressing optimism about the team’s prospects.

Social media was abuzz with praise for Kamberipa and Muzeu, whose goals were pivotal in securing the win.

Lesotho fans, though disappointed, showed support for their team, hoping for a turnaround in the upcoming match against Angola.

### Looking Ahead

The final group stage matches will determine the fate of the teams in Group C. For Namibia, the goal is clear: a win against Seychelles will cement their position in the knockout stages, bringing them one step closer to COSAFA Cup success. Lesotho, facing a tougher challenge, will need to rally and secure a win against Angola to keep their tournament dreams alive.

As the COSAFA Cup 2024 progresses, the excitement and anticipation continue to build. Fans and teams alike are eager to see who will emerge victorious and claim the coveted trophy.
