Namibia FA pushes 2026/27 football season to November 7, demands urgent compliance from leagues
The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has postponed the start of the 2026/27 football season to November 7, giving leagues across the country a revised deadline to finalise their fixtures and meet sponsorship requirements.
The decision, communicated in a letter dated October 20 and signed by acting General Secretary Mabos Vries, affects all football competitions nationwide, including the Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL), the FNB Women’s Super League and the first, second and third divisions.
Futsal Namibia and the National Referees Committee were also included in the communication, which calls on all relevant structures to complete the necessary preparations ahead of the new opening date.
The rescheduling comes as the association works to finalise sponsorship arrangements with Namport, with the NFA stressing the importance of receiving accurate documentation from the various league structures to avoid further delays.
NFA sets November 7 launch in Walvis Bay
The association has scheduled the official launch of the new season for November 7 at Kuisebmund Stadium in Walvis Bay.
As part of the preparations, all league structures have been instructed to submit confirmed schedules and fixtures to ensure their respective competitions are ready to begin on the same day.
Vries urged the association’s members and relevant stakeholders to treat the directive with “the utmost urgency”, emphasising the need for prompt action to meet the requirements attached to the planned launch.
The revised date places pressure on the various competitions to complete their administrative preparations and provide the necessary information within the stipulated timeframe.
The NFA’s communication was sent to the NPFL, the FNB Women’s Super League, the three lower divisions, Futsal Namibia and the National Referees Committee, highlighting the nationwide scope of the change.
Sponsorship requirements behind urgent directive
The NFA has made the submission of supporting documents a priority as it works to fulfil its obligations to Namport, the sponsor whose requirements are central to the launch arrangements.
Among the documents requested are bank confirmation letters issued within the past three months. These must be provided by all 16 NPFL clubs, the regional leagues for both men and women, the National Referees Committee and Futsal Namibia.
The documents were required to reach the NFA Leagues Department by 10:00 on October 21, the deadline specified in the association’s communication.
Vries stressed that timely and accurate submissions were essential for the NFA to meet the sponsor’s requirements and complete the logistical arrangements for the season’s launch.
The association is seeking to ensure that the necessary administrative processes are completed in time for the November 7 start, with all participating structures expected to comply with the directive.
Association apologises for earlier communication
The NFA also apologised to members and stakeholders for its earlier communication dated October 14, acknowledging the need to clarify the arrangements surrounding the start of the new season.
It said documentation from all relevant parties was necessary to finalise the sponsorship logistics and protect the planned launch “without further delay.”
The latest directive therefore combines a revised start date with an urgent call for compliance, as the association seeks to coordinate the country’s football competitions under a common timetable.
With November 7 approaching, the focus now shifts to the affected leagues and football structures to provide the outstanding documents, confirm their fixtures and complete preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
The NFA’s ability to meet the revised schedule will depend on the timely cooperation of the clubs, leagues and other stakeholders involved in the launch arrangements.
