Chungnam Asan have completed the signing of Ghanaian centre-forward Naeem Mohammed from Swedish side Halmstads BK on a free transfer, with his contract at the K League 2 club running from 10/03/2026 to 10/03/2028.
The 29-year-old arrives in South Korea after leaving Halmstads at the end of his spell in Sweden’s top flight, Allsvenskan, and will wear the No. 84 shirt for his new club. Despite the move being completed without a transfer fee, Mohammed joins Chungnam Asan with a current market value listed at €800k, underlining the scale of the acquisition for a second-tier Korean side.
Mohammed’s switch marks the latest step in a career that has steadily climbed from academy football in Ghana to the professional ranks in Europe and now Asia. A right-footed centre-forward standing 1.75m tall, he first came through at Tamale Utrecht Football Academy in his homeland before moving to Sweden on loan with Sandvikens IF on 18/03/2019. That loan became a permanent transfer later in the 2019/20 season, with Sandvikens securing him from Tamale Utrecht.
After three years of development and growing reputation in the Swedish system, Mohammed earned a move to Halmstads BK on 01/02/2023. At Halmstads his market value rose sharply, climbing from €100k in mid-2023 to a peak of €1m in 2024 as he established himself in the Allsvenskan. Although his valuation later settled at €800k by late 2025, it still reflects his status as a proven professional attacker entering his prime years.
From a broader career perspective, the transfer confirms that Mohammed will continue playing abroad rather than returning to Ghana, extending a long spell away from his home country. Having already adapted to Swedish football over several seasons, he now faces a fresh challenge in a different football culture and environment in Korea, South, where he will compete in the K League 2.
For Chungnam Asan, the arrival of a forward with top-flight European experience represents a significant statement of intent. Mohammed brings experience from multiple levels: academy football in Ghana, lower-league development and then top-tier competition in Sweden. His path from Tamale Utrecht Football Academy to Sandvikens IF, on to Halmstads BK, and now to Chungnam Asan outlines a steady progression through increasingly competitive environments.
Contractually, the move also sets a clear horizon for both player and club. With his deal in Korea running from 10/03/2026 to 10/03/2028, Mohammed is tied to Chungnam Asan through a key phase of his late twenties and early thirties, a period in which many forwards look to maximise both performance and stability. At the end of that term, depending on form and fitness, he could either negotiate an extension, secure another move abroad, or become a free agent.
The confirmed transfer closes the chapter on Mohammed’s time in Sweden and opens a new one in East Asia, with his performance in the K League 2 likely to shape the next stage of his career trajectory and his standing within Ghanaian footballers plying their trade overseas.
