Zamalek midfielder Nabil Emad “Dunga” ended his month-long goal drought in emphatic fashion, scoring early in his team’s Egypt Cup clash against Modern Sport on Friday.
Just five minutes into the Round of 16 encounter, Dunga capitalized on a defensive error from Modern Sport’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Magdy. After latching onto a precise cross from Ahmed Mustafa “Zizou,” the midfielder rose high to head the ball into the net, giving Zamalek an early lead.
This goal marked Dunga’s first since February 7, when he found the net against Ismaily in the General League Championship. His latest strike also brings his tally to three goals for Zamalek this season.
Since joining the club, Dunga has featured in 97 matches, scoring six goals and providing three assists.
With the match locked at 1-1, 39-year-old Shikabala stepped up in extra time, meeting Zizou’s cross from the left and guiding the ball into an empty net.
Next up, Zamalek faces Smouha in the quarterfinals as they chase a record-extending 29th Egypt Cup title.
