Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana has taken responsibility for Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in the Premier League, despite his crucial saves in Sunday’s clash.
The one-time best goalkeeper in the Champions League said he was happy with the fabulous saves he made to prevent the hosts from winning the game at Portman Road but expressed regret at their inability to win the game.
The 28-year-old made five saves during the match, which Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged as key to earning the point. However, Onana remains dissatisfied.
“I was happy with the saves, but it was not enough to win the game, which is the most important thing… and myself, I’m the first one to always take responsibility,” he said after the game.
“We are all happy to have him, he is a very positive coach. He played years ago so he knows how to manage a dressing room. We are all happy and very positive.
“We are Manchester United and there is a lot of responsibility on us. We have to be able to win games and unfortunately, we didn’t win today. It’s difficult.”
So far this season, André Onana has kept five clean sheets in 12 Premier League appearances.
