The head coach of the Atlas Lions of Morocco, Walid Regragui, has opened up on his ambition heading into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
According to him, it is his wish to win the tournament for Morocco.
“Of course, my greatest wish is to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco,” Walid Regragui told Spanish TV show “El Chiringuito.”
He continued, “The expectations of an entire nation place a huge responsibility on us, just as it’s a goal I’ve always had as a player and now as a coach.
“I’ve reached the highest level any Atlas Lions coach can dream of in the World Cup, finishing fourth behind some of the world’s top teams in 2022. It would be great to repeat that in the World Cup in America. But before thinking about that, I have to win the Africa Cup of Nations because, despite the contract that allows me to attend the World Cup, no one knows what would happen if we didn’t win the Africa Cup of Nations.”
The 2025 AFCON tournament will kick off in Morocco in Morocco on December 21, 2025.
The final will be played on January 18, 2026.
