“My departure from Zamalek was not for technical reasons” – Former coach Jose Peseiro

Portuguese trainer Jose Peseiro has opened up about his departure from Egyptian giants Zamalek, saying his exit was not for technical reasons.

The former Nigeria gaffer was shown the exit door in early May after the side played out a 2-2 draw against National Bank in the Egyptian top-flight.

Peseiro took charge of the team in February and led them in just 13 matches, managing six wins, six draws, and only one defeat.

Explaining why he left Zamalek, Peseiro said, “My departure from Zamalek wasn’t for technical reasons. I suddenly found myself out of the team. I wasn’t surprised by my departure in this way.”

He added, “The Zamalek team wasn’t in good shape, and Egyptian football is influenced by the fans, and perhaps that’s the reason I left coaching Zamalek, but I was very happy to coach a team as prestigious as Zamalek.” He told ON Sport 1.

We had a lot of work ahead of us and we still had a chance in the league, but as I said, football in Egypt is affected by the fans. The Egyptian people are overly emotional.
