His international career with France came to an end when he, along with eleven other professional players, left France clandestinely for Tunisia. In Tunisia, an Algerian FLN team was formed during the years of the Algerian War of Independence, and Zitouni played a significant role, participating in around a hundred matches. Later, he appeared in the first selections of independent Algeria, concluding his playing career at RC Kouba.
Zitouni had a brief coaching career, working with several clubs in Algeria and Libya before settling in Nice, where he contributed to Air Algérie. His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Nice, at the eastern cemetery.
