Moussa Niakhate ruled out of Senegal’s friendly against Comoros

Moussa Niakhate has been ruled out of Senegal’s friendly against Comoros on Sunday, 4 October after undergoing medical examinations in Marseille.

The Olympique Lyonnais central defender was assessed following an injury sustained during his recent appearances in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. An MRI scan prompted Senegal manager Patrick Vieira to take no chances with the player’s fitness.

Vieira has therefore released Niakhate from the Lions of Teranga squad so he can continue receiving medical treatment. His absence leaves Senegal without one of their defensive options for the match at Stade Velodrome.

Niakhate will return immediately to Olympique Lyonnais, where he will begin a treatment programme with the club’s medical staff. Further assessments will determine the precise length of his absence.
