Moses Oloya has completed a move from Ugandan side Express FC to Vietnamese outfit Hai Phong FC on a free transfer, returning to V.League 1 football and rejoining a club he previously represented. The 33-year-old defensive midfielder has signed a contract with Hai Phong FC running from 07/02/2026 until 30/06/2027.
The Uganda international switches from the Uganda Premier League to Vietnam’s top flight with an official transfer date of 2026-02-07, ending his short spell at Express. Transfer records list the deal as a free transfer, despite his current market valuation being set at €50k, underlining the low-risk nature of the move for Hai Phong and the opportunity for Oloya to re-establish himself in a league he knows well.
Oloya’s arrival strengthens Hai Phong’s midfield with an experienced holding player who has spent a significant portion of his career in Vietnam. The Kampala-born midfielder, who stands at 1.80m and prefers his right foot, has already played for Hai Phong once before, joining them in early 2022 from Ha Noi FC before moving on to Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC in 2023. His return now comes after a circuitous spell back in Ugandan football.
The veteran’s career path reflects both regional and international experience. After emerging at Kampala Capital City Authority FC in Uganda, he first left his home country for Vietnam in 2011 to sign for Xi mang Xuan Thanh Saigon. From there he moved to Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC in 2014, then made a notable jump to Europe with Russian side Kuban Krasnodar in 2016. In 2017 he headed back to Vietnam with Ha Noi FC, where his market value peaked at €250k in 2020, before another switch to Hai Phong FC in 2022 and then on to Becamex Ho Chi Minh City in early 2023.
Following his release in mid-2023, Oloya spent a period without a club, with his value briefly dropping to zero in late 2023. He restarted his career at Wakiso Giants FC in February 2025, then moved to Express FC in July 2025, rebuilding his status in the Uganda Premier League and recovering his valuation to €50k by early 2026. That resurgence has now culminated in a fresh opportunity abroad with Hai Phong.
The move also reopens the possibility of Oloya extending his career at a competitive level in Asia after turning 33 on 22 October 1992. With a long history in V.League 1 and previous involvement in Russian football, he brings substantial international experience back to Hai Phong’s dressing room. For Ugandan fans, his departure marks the loss of an established midfielder from the domestic league, but it continues a familiar pattern of the player testing himself outside his home country.
Having already represented clubs in Uganda, Vietnam and Russia, Oloya’s latest contract with Hai Phong FC offers a chance to prolong his professional career and potentially set up a final chapter in a league where he has previously reached some of his highest market valuations. How he performs in this second spell at Hai Phong will likely shape the closing stages of his career and determine whether he can again become a key figure in V.League 1.
